Sadly I have toreport the death of Betty McQueen. Betty was a honory member and friend to the club for many years. She will be sadly missed by her family and all the members of the club who knew her.

With the longest day approaching the club is very busy with competitions and visitors. This week we hosted the Kirkcudbrightshire Association Junior Championship. It was a pleasure to hear the plaudits on the course condition from both competitors and officials. The club was well represented with both of our eligible juniors taking part, in fact Scott Jamieson won the handicap section with a very fine net 68.

The ladies played for the MacEwan Cup this week when Gerry MacKetchnie shot a fine net 69 to win.

On Sunday the gents played the first round of the Shepley Shepley Trophy and for the first time in some weeks the weather turned very wet. Those that went out early in the morning took advantage of the dry conditions with Brian Duguid leading the way with a super net 64. Brian was closely followed by Dick Tulloch with a 65. The second round is played in four weeks time and with things so tight at the top it will certainly be an interesting day.

Next Saturday, 25th June is Captains Day and it is good to see a very big entry. Plans are well in hand for the day. The main competition will start at 11:30am with coffee and biscuits available for those who would like to come along early. Following the golf there will be a buffet which the ladies are presently working hard to plan and prepare. In the afternoon the juniors have been invited along for their own Drive, Pitch & Putt competition. If you haven’t entered and you would like to, please let me know by Wednesday 22nd so that the draw can be made and the members notified of their tee times. Also, remember that your family and friends are invited to come along and enjoy the fun.
