Seniors League 18: 2019

Seniors League 19: 2019 14 elderly golfers assembled to play the 18 Seniors League on an absolutely saturated course.. Unfortunately 3 of our number in buggies failed to make the hill. Handicap reductions have made their mark as no one scored 30 points. Winner on the day was Dave Nielsen with 29 points gaining an extra point at the 12th Firs where his birdie scored 3 points and not 2 as per the card. Three players tied for second place Chris McIntyre, Derek Shipley and Ian McCulloch scoring 25 points, Chris and Derek tied the second half and Chris won…

Curse of max score strikes again- Saturday 9th March 2019

We had planned a Maximum Score medal, but nobody told the weather. I'm starting to suspect it is a jinxed format. Despite the heavy overnight rain, the course was declared playable. But the rain/sleet was so heavy we agreed to postpone the medal until better weather. This would be anything less than torrential rain. We're not princesses. We settled down with a cuppa and yummy chocolate fudge traybake (thanks Erica). After a short while, to our surprise, it cleared up enough for a social 9 holes. Eight of us set off and it proved glorious. The rain cleared, the wind…

Ladies Winter League – Saturday 2nd March 2019

Teeing off briskly to stay ahead of Storm Freya, ten of us contested the latest Winter League fixture.   The wind became progressively more blustery as we played round the top of the course. Then the rain arrived within an impressive 7 minutes of the forecast time. Conditions got a wee bit more tricky. Hard to believe that, because of the sunshine, I played in only a T-shirt on Tuesday afternoon. Well not quite 'only' but you know what I mean. In the gusts, scores were harder to come by than last week. Nobody quite managed to stay blob-free (certainly…

Ladies Winter League – Saturday 23rd February 2019

Well, I was too gloomy in my weather predictions in the last post. Yesterday we turned up to play golf in your actual sunshine. As a result, it was glorious.   Stripping down to only four layers, it was out with the sun hat, sun-glasses and sun block. After we'd prepared for the conditions, eight of us set off to contest this week's Winter League.   Modesty forbids me mentioning that only one of us made it all the way round blob-free. Similarly, I can't possible say who secured this week's top spot. Ahem. A mere three points off the…

Ladies Winter League – Saturday 16th February 2019 & Not the Xmas Lunch

At last the weather was kind to us today. Gloriously overcast and with hardly any rain, it was a successful Winter League match to set us up for Not The Xmas Lunch.   There was a fine victory for Chris in the Winter League - a long-expected first prize after a steady collection of 2nd and 3rd places in this season's competition.   There was another 2's glory for Kay at the 4th (her second in as many months). This helped her secure 2nd place on the day. Chris & Kay are now joint 3rd in the Winter League [edit:…
