Weekly Golf News – Monday 1st May 2017

With the weather holding up we have been able to take advantage and some hard work has been done on the course. The greens have been verticut and the cutters lowered on the mower with the result that they are looking very good and playing even faster. Marena has been busy painting the distance markers and other areas with the result that everything is looking brilliant. With the end of April members should be advised that preffered lies cease to be in operation when playing in competitions. The draws for the gents Coronation Cup, Gerry Dickenson 4BBB, the mixed Johnstone…

With the season now in full swing the course is a busy place with both members and visitors making use of the good playing conditions.

On Saturday the ladies held their Glenkens Salver Open Greensomes. With 34 couples playing on the day all the hard work organising the competition and making the clubhouse welcoming was more than worth it. The second & third pairings both came from the Kirkcudbright club, however the club’s own Sandra Lancaster playing with Christine McIntosh of Wigtownshire County were the winners with 66.2. This was Sandra’s first ever win in an open competition. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the day such a success. (more…)

Weekly News – Monday 27th March 2017

On Sunday we played Opening Day in just gorgeous weather, you could have been fooled into thinking it was the height of summer.

The day took the form of a 2 person Texas Scramble match play between the Captain & Vice Captain’s teams. The assembled players watched keenly as both the Captain and Vice Captain drove the club into the new season. To say this was something to behold is probably a little of an exaggaration and we will leave it at that. The matches were keenly fought with all the competitors enjoying the competition. The outcome however was very cut and dry with the Captains team taking the honours. Following the golf the ladies treated everyone to some fantastic soup & cheese and biscuits. Following this the Captain made an excellent speech thanking the ladies for their hard work and also those who had worked hard to prepare the course and clubhouse for the big day. (more…)

In the Ladies March Medal Erica Porteous conntinued her fine form to win with a 73 beating Ann McQueen on the back nine score.

In the Gents March medal it was evident that a winter playing stableford off the front tees has softened the scoring skills. Only one player recorded a score of under 70, this was John Fleck who easily won with a nice 66. (more…)
