Ladies Winter League – farewell to 2019

We had a slightly dreich day for the last Winter League fixture of 2019. But five of us set out to do battle with the course.   The twosome set off first and I'm afraid I've no pictures of their match as we three dawdled round behind them out of range of my zoom lens. Looking at the scorecards they must have been on form. Erica scored the best half of the day (19 points!) and Sandra bagged <drum roll> a two. Very well done. I hope you all weren't too disturbed by the sound of her victory flight home…

Ladies Winter League – mince pies pt3

Festivities were in full swing today...     and despite the dank weather, we were determined to have some Winter League fun.   Only 3 hardened golfers were free to play this week, so we set off in one jolly group. Ho, ho, ho!   We got off to a steady start with actual pars scored on both the first two holes (me on the first and Erica on the second). As ever, the third wasn't giving up a par to ANYONE. Pah! But in the conditions we were happy with two 5's and a six. On the 4th, two's…

Ladies Winter League – more mince pies!

Saturday dawned even more cold and bitter than a disappointed Scots voter. Regardless, five of us girded our loins and set off for 15 delightful holes of millionaire's golf.   Janette and I set off first, both happy to card 5's on the first (me more so after travelling via an interesting lie or two). A few holes later and my luck held up. I jammied an unlikely 4 on the 6th after topping my approach shot quite spectacularly. Luckily it was aimed correctly and it scooted along the grass between the gorse bushes. Unbelievably it rolled up and over…

Ladies Dec Medal & warm mince pies

Six lucky, lucky golfers enjoyed a beautiful warm and sunny day yesterday for the December medal. There was not a breath of wind nor a drop of rain. Honest. For some reason my camera makes it look wet and windy. Anyway, after liberally applying the sunblock, we set out in T-shirts, shorts and sunnies for 18 whole holes.*   I started with minor detour into the shrubs just to the right of the green. Fortunately, it's not a location I visit too often. I wouldn't recommend it. Meanwhile, Erica managed to ignore my lob wedge woes and started with a…

Ladies Winter League – Dreich!

Let me climb down from the naughty step long enough to write up last week's golf report. At least you know it should be short as there's only so much one can glean from the photos' metadata and the scorecards!   I *do* remember arriving at the club in the teeming rain, feeling like I wasn't operating at peak efficiency. I dashed inside and put on the kettle on in a vain attempt to divert everyone onto tea and biscuits. Sadly, they were all made of far sterner stuff and I was shortly out on the course, hacking my way round.…

Ladies Winter League – Frosty the Golfer

Only three members were nails enough to take on the deep frost challenge yesterday. Determined to bag some valuable Winter League points enjoy a beautiful morning's golf, we paused briefly for a cuppa to allow the course to defrost a bit. It was so cold, even Kay took a hot drink (no, not hot coke, who asked that?) Then we set off into dazzling sun, risking potential frost-blindness.   Having spent an inordinate amount of the time on the first searching for white balls, Kay very kindly lent Elena & I a yellow ball each to help speed up play.…
