Ladies Winter League & Marmalade Cake

[Disclaimer: it has been a few days since this competition so fingers-crossed my memory stands up to the test...] In the run up to Hallowe'en, New Ghouloway Golf club didn't have the most promising of starts weather-wise for this week's Winter League fixture:   Undaunted, eight of us marched off up and away (mainly to try to get some blood flowing to our numb extremities)...     As the sun burnt through, we reverted to the usual stunning views...     And the views from the 7th green never disappoint...   And on the flora front...down by the path to…

Ladies Winter League & Snowballs

Nine of us turned out for Super Saturday Winter League yesterday only to be greeted by some fairly heavy wet stuff emanating from the sky. Taking our inspiration from Westminster, we opted to delay our final decision whether or not to take back control of our golf by leaving the clubhouse. Instead we settled down for tea and cake and some deliberations. It turned out to be a wise decision because the rain had stopped by the time we finished. Newly refreshed, we drew for groups and set off for a 9 hole Winter League. I smacked a nice…

Seniors Away Day October 2019

21 Players took part in the first round of the 36 Hole Seniors Trophy at Kirkcudbright Golf Club. Fortunately, the weather turned out much better than the forecast rain for the period after 10 o'clock. The sun shone for the latter part of the round. Afterwards, the group enjoyed a buffet in the Thai Kitchen with three dishes, Penang Chicken Curry, Sweet & Sour Prawns and Beef with green peppers in black bean sauce. Dave Aitken's friend Hugh, Kenny Grierson and Tony Graham joined us for the day. Hugh won the day with 37 points. Dave Aitken and Chris McIntyre,…

Ladies – Oct Medal

A lovely, bright day dawned for the October medal. Nine ladies gathered and set off into the brightness...   The course played a bit easier (I missed that memo) and CSS was -1. The second group focussing on the putt and not the view...         Two-thirds of the second group pausing on 5th for piccie...   When the scorecards were tallied, the winner today was Erica with a terrific 67. Fabulous round! Following closely behind was Marena on 70 and Annie on 73. Nicely done. For individual mentions in dispatches: we had no 2's today but…

Ladies Omni-update (including Balmaclellan Quiz)

Pull up a chair and a drink...plenty of news to update since we last chatted:   Sat 21st Sep: Medal Final   Beautiful weather for the Medal Final. Six competitors headed out for a lovely round - though conditions proved tricky enough for it to become reduction-only. We also introduced preferred lies as conditions were a little damp underfoot. No twos were recorded. Scores on the doors were: 1st Janette 76 2nd Erica 79 3rd Jackie 80 (on count back from Marena over last 9 holes)   Well done everyone!   Sadly, to overcome the shame over my performance  I…

Fri 4th Oct: Men’s Shed Golf Fun Day!

Luckily all the dreadful forecasts came to naught. The weather was positively clement for our first ever (hopefully not the last?) Glenkens Men's Shed Greensomes. We had a grand turnout of 12 reckless entrants for the golf and several more for the putting. Ready to go, we paired up in beginner/golfer pairs and set off for some fun! Divots flew from the start (sorry green-keepers!) We headed up the hill for 9 holes of top entertainment. Our group raced round fairly quickly considering we'd only 6 actual, human hips between us.           Lovely shot into the…

Seniors AGM

We started our winter season on Thursday with the AGM and a 9 Hole Competition. 19 members attended the meeting. It was an uncontentious meeting. It was agreed that in the leagues two divisions that players would remain in their respective divisions throughout the season and handicap reductions would revert to the overall winner and second place of 2 & 1 shots be applied. A Texas Scramble or  other fun game would be played each month. In the following 9 Hole competition Brian Duguid cleared the field with 21 points setting his mark for the league. Terry came second with…
