The weather this month has been mixed although we where blessed with a fantastic day for Captain's Day. The day began with the now annnual 9 hole junior competition for the Les Burton Trophy. The winner once again was young Chloe Aitken with a fine net 31, however much praise must go to little Sophie Roberts who although still under 10 years of age played her heart out to come a close second with an amazing net 32. Ladies Update – 26th June 2019

This Wednesday brought the annual bogey competition - the Shipley Trophy. A lovely sunny day again in the Glenkens and eleven masochists set out for the harsh format (effectively you play against yourself on a good day).   I had the pleasure of playing with a new member Alison for the first time and Lady Captain. This was followed by the main event for the Jack McQueen Memorial Quaich. Captain’s Day – Ladies’ Scores

It was a lovely sunny day for golf and the weather was matched by some fine scoring. In the end it was a narrow victory for Janette. She wins with the top score of 38 points. She was matched by Marena and needed countback to secure the top spot. Running them both very close was Fiona who finished with a great score of 37 points. Special mention also goes to Erica who managed the only (Ladies) two of the day at the 4th. Well done everybody. It can't have been easy in the blazing sunshine.

Ladies Update 22nd June 2019

June Medal 5th June 2019 A tightly-fought victory for Marena over Janette on countback (both scored 70) with Elena hot on their heels one stroke behind. There were two twos: Marena at the 4th and Annie at the 13th. McEwan Cup 12th June 2019 A fine victory for Elena with a round of 70. Winning by 1 stroke ahead of Erica, with Marena chasing in third place a couple of strokes further behind. Nobody managed a two in this competition. Borders Trip 2019

Seniors Border Trophy Competition To conclude before I start, we had a cracking 3 day golf trip with a worthy winner in Bobby Walker. The adverse weather forecast did not materialise. Well done Dave Nielsen for organising the weather and an outstanding deal at the Peebles Hydro.The first round played at Lanark where the course was in marvellous condition. It is very playable where all but two holes are reachable in regulation despite being 6107 yards long. Booby won the day with 32 points, Terry 30 and Wave 28 points. The season is now in full swing all the knockout match play competitions are progressing well. In the ladies weekly competitions Janette Davidson won the May Medal with a fantastic net 65, arena McClymont won the WASS Cup with a fine 68 and kay Gillespie won the May Burkinshaw Putter with a 101, this included 31 putts. Our Captain, Stuart jamieson has had a fine month. Before setting off on his Cruise he won the Brown Cup with an oustanding net 61 and the Glenkens Tankards with Nevile White with 62.8.
