April News

As we all bathed in scorching weather during april the course took it badly and we where required to spend most of our time watering greens. In the end it has all been worth it and our greens are now coming to life. Thanks to everyone who worked hard during the month keeping the course in such good order. It is such a boon to have so amy willing members to help us. Members will be excited by the news that we now have a practise net which is sited over by the tractor shed. This will allow you all…

Ladies Stableford Sweep Saturday 27th April

This week a break in the scorchio weather brought some welcome rain for our greens. In the village, the lightning strikes and hailstorm were a little less welcome. Seven golfers turned out in face of a fairly pessimistic forecast. It was actually dry and clear when we arrived. So we put the tin of chocolate chip cookies to one side and set off for our Stableford Sweep competition.   There was a large dose of be-careful-for-you-wish-for at the first. Somebody (i.e. me) managed to 4 putt on the very much slower green! Hey, at least I didn't putt off the…

Ladies Scottish Golf R&A 9 hole challenge

It was another glorious sunny day on planet Dumfries & Galloway for our Scottish Golf R&A 9 hole challenge. This is the first time we've run this new-ish competition. It's a stableford pairs competition (adding together the pair's individual scores for the team result). Eight golfers set off in the fabulous sunshine to compete for the chance to represent the club at the national final in Perthshire. Annie definitely won the best trews competition. This picture teeing off up the 7th cannot do justice to their glorious Royal Stewartiness.   And while we're at the 7th, I should mention our…

Ladies – KO and 123 Social

Spring has well and truly sprung around the course and in our lovely flower tubs...           And we were blessed with yet another glorious day for a game of golf yesterday...   The first two matches from our individual knock out competition set out shortly before 10 getting the day's sport rolling.   Details on the KO matches are sadly lacking, but I can report that everyone was still on good terms in the clubhouse. Well done to both Elena and Erica who progressed to the next round. Commiserations to Kay and Chris who remain to…

Glenkens Salver – Open Greensomes Saturday 13th April 2019

We had a great turnout for our 2019 Glenkens Salver Opens Greensomes. Players jetted in from as far afield as Stranraer and Glasgow to join in the fun. Sadly, last year's victors were unavailable to defend their title, leaving a field of 20 pairs to contest the honours. It was glorious, dazzling and bright. And that was just my trousers. Fortunately, the sun was also shining magnificently. But the chilly gusts meant a few layers were still sorely needed. Especially by those who'd abandoned their thermals in a fit of foolish optimism (guilty as charged).   An unseasonably long spell…

Ladies April Medal – Saturday 6th April 2019

Another medal this week. They certainly come thick and fast at this time of year. A beautiful, clear sunny day for our second maximum score medal. We liked it so much, we ran it again. And it didn't even rain! We also had some 9 hole participants this time. So 10 of us set out for 18 holes and 2 went for the 9 hole option.   With all the fine weather, the greens have sped up a fair bit since last week. This made for some interesting putting (this is my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Others had…

2nd Round 36 Hole Trophy 2019

16 Players arrived in plenty of time to play the second round of the 36 Hole Trophy. Thanks to Jackie Duguid for arranging a superb deal that included a ball for everyone. The course was in great condition for this time of year with speedy greens where it was not uncommon to putt off some of the sloping greens. The weather was bright and cold with an occasional light shower of hail.Wave Tyrrell won the day with 33 points on a day when his putter actually worked. This win coupled with a second place 29 points at Lochmaben secured the…
